The Salford City FC Foundation was delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Mary Earps MBE to the KeepHERS programme, where she spent an unforgettable afternoon inspiring the next generation of female goalkeepers.
Around 20 aspiring goalkeepers took part in the regular weekly session, which gave participants the unique opportunity to learn from one of the world’s best. Mary joined the group on the pitch, sharing her expertise through practical coaching tips, encouraging the players throughout the session, and offering valuable advice to help them develop both their skills and confidence.
Following the training, participants enjoyed an exclusive Q&A, where Mary answered questions about her career, overcoming challenges, preparing for matches, and what it takes to perform at the highest level. Her honest insights and words of encouragement left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
To round off a memorable visit, Mary took the time to meet every participant, signing shirts, gloves and other memorabilia, creating special memories for the young goalkeepers and their families.
The visit reflects the ambition of the KeepHERS programme, delivered in partnership with Mary Earps, to provide young female players with inspiring opportunities, high-quality coaching and positive role models within the game. Having one of the sport’s most recognisable goalkeepers involved was a fantastic experience that highlighted the importance of supporting and developing the next generation of women’s footballers.
