Peter’s Story- Improving Health & Wellbeing at Broughton House Veteran Care Village

At 90 years old, Peter is one of the most dedicated participants in Salford City FC Foundation’s Health & Wellbeing programme at Broughton House Veteran Care Village.

The Foundation delivers regular physical activity sessions for residents and members of the Broughton House community, creating opportunities for older people and veterans to stay active, maintain their independence and enjoy the social benefits of taking part in group activities. The sessions are designed to be accessible and adaptable, ensuring that every participant can get involved and progress at a pace that is right for them.

Peter has become a familiar and much-loved face at the sessions. He rarely misses an opportunity to take part and is often waiting outside the gym before it opens, eager to get started on his favourite exercise machine.

Since joining the programme, Peter has shown real determination to challenge himself and build on his progress. Over time, he has progressed from seated exercises to taking part in standing movements, developing his confidence and physical ability along the way. He is also always keen to try something new and is never one to turn down the opportunity to put on the boxing gloves and test his skills.

For Peter, the sessions have become an important part of his weekly routine, providing a regular opportunity to stay physically active in a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment. The programme also brings people together, helping participants build connections and enjoy the sense of community that comes from exercising alongside others.

Peter’s journey highlights the impact of Salford City FC Foundation’s Health & Wellbeing work at Broughton House Veteran Care Village. By creating accessible opportunities for people to be active, the Foundation is supporting participants to maintain their independence, build confidence and improve their overall wellbeing.

Ruby Williams, Health & Wellbeing Officer at Salford City FC Foundation said:
It is brilliant to see Peter attend regularly. He values these sessions as an opportunity to stay fit, healthy and independent, and always has a smile on his face in the gym. It is great to see Peter try a variety of different exercises, and there is nothing that he doesn’t want to try! These sessions provide vital opportunity for residents like Peter to access physical activity in different ways.
